About this blog

If you live in Spain and have a garden, or just have an interest in gardening, then you have found the right blog to follow for advice and information. My name is James McAllister and I have lived in Spain for over 15 years. As a keen gardener I struggled when I first came to Spain because all the knowledge and expertise that I had built up in my garden in Kent was rendered useless over night because climate, soil and plants are completely different here.

Through this blog you will be able to follow me throughout the Spanish gardening year as I tend to our large garden in Spain. If you follow everything I am doing then apply it to your garden whether you are a keen gardener or just starting out, both you and your garden will benefit and we will probably have a laugh along the way.

Just click on any of the Posts below and they will tell you all about what I have been doing in the garden. If you have a particular topic you are interested in, then search for it in the search box at the bottom of the page. If you have a question or comment just use the “comment” function and I will get back you as soon as possible.

Oh and by the way, if you enjoy this blog then please click the “like” button below as it gives me a vicarious thrill. But just as importantly, if you want to share my pearls of garden wisdom then just click on one of the share buttons below – enjoy!

    1. Hi Mel,

Yes Oleander are poisonous to dogs, but so are lots of other Spanish plants. I have three oleander and my dogs have never shown any inclination to chomp on it. Dogs never really bother with anything unless it has berries then they can become interested till they are sick, but oleander doesn’t produce berries and I have never heard of an actual poisoning. If you are worried but want a nice flowering shrub then get Plumbago, it flowers all Summer long and has a beautiful light blue flower which is profuse from May to October.
